Some things start with an ending. Tatty Soap began in 2023, born from eight years in the tattoo removal industry and the loss of a mentor. After Ben Alway passed – the man who introduced me to laser tattoo removal – I started making soap as a way of distracting myself and coping with the loss.
It kind of made sense, really. Eight years of removing tattoos teaches you a lot about skin, tattoos, and healing. When a local tattoo artist asked me to design aftercare products specifically for tattoos, I dove in. The science was familiar territory – I’d spent years studying tattoo removal, how ink settles in skin, how different pigments react, and how the healing process works. Every bar of Tatty Soap carries that knowledge.
Small-batch production means control over every step, from selecting locally-sourced ingredients to cutting each bar. We portion each bar deliberately – the right amount for each stage of the healing process, nothing wasted. Whether you choose our plant-based formula or traditional tallow soap, every ingredient has a purpose.
This isn’t just about soap. It’s about way more than that to me. Edmonton’s tattoo scene gave me a second career; a career that I cherish. Now, working alongside Legacy Tattoo Removal, we’re giving something back. Good clean bars, less waste, local roots.
Happy healing, y’all!
